Job Brief
The Tank Car Reconditioner is responsible for diagnosing, adjusting, repairing, and overhauling railroad rolling stock, mine cars, and mass transit rail cars. This role requires a skilled technician with experience in the maintenance of various rail vehicles and a strong understanding of mechanical systems. Responsibilities
- Diagnose mechanical issues in tank cars and related rolling stock using diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Perform adjustments, repairs, and overhauls on tank cars, ensuring compliance with industry safety standards.
- Inspect and test components and systems, including brakes, couplings, and air systems, to ensure proper operation.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs performed on tank cars.
- Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot complex mechanical problems and develop effective solutions.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while working in a repair facility.
- Keep work areas clean and organized, ensuring tools and equipment are in good condition.
- Continuously update knowledge of industry trends and advancements in tank car technology and repair techniques.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in automotive or mechanical technology preferred.
- Proven experience in repairing and maintaining railroad rolling stock or similar vehicles.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with a solid understanding of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and practices in the rail industry.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to undergo background checks and drug screening.
