Job Brief
The Heavy Duty Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of facilities through routine heavy cleaning and maintenance tasks. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with experience in industrial cleaning, floor care, and basic maintenance. The ideal candidate will exhibit strong organizational skills, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to safety and cleanliness standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform heavy cleaning duties, including washing floors, shampooing carpets, and cleaning walls and windows.
- Remove rubbish and ensure waste is disposed of in compliance with environmental regulations.
- Conduct routine maintenance activities such as monitoring furnace and boiler operations.
- Notify management of any repair needs or hazardous conditions promptly.
- Maintain exterior areas by clearing snow, debris, or other hazards from sidewalks and entryways.
- Ensure cleaning supplies are stocked and report shortages to management.
- Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Collaborate with other custodial staff to complete larger cleaning projects and ensure overall facility cleanliness.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a custodian or in a similar role within an industrial or commercial cleaning environment.
- Familiarity with cleaning chemicals, equipment, and safety procedures.
- Ability to operate cleaning machinery such as floor scrubbers and carpet extractors.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions effectively.
- Physical stamina to perform manual labor and lift heavy items.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Valid driver’s license may be required for transportation of cleaning supplies.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends as needed.
