Job Brief
The Wind Tunnel Technician plays a vital role in the aerospace industry, responsible for operating, installing, adjusting, and maintaining integrated computer and communication systems, as well as various measurement instruments involved in the testing of air and space vehicles. This position requires a combination of technical expertise and analytical skills to effectively record and interpret test data, ensuring optimal performance and accurate evaluation of aerodynamic properties. Candidates should have a solid background in engineering technology, mechanical systems, and data acquisition processes, complemented by strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain wind tunnel testing systems and equipment to support aerodynamic testing.
- Install, adjust, and troubleshoot computer and communication systems used in data acquisition.
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of test instruments to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Record, analyze, and interpret test data to provide insights into vehicle performance.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to design and execute test plans for various air and space vehicles.
- Document test procedures and results, contributing to technical reports and presentations.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and industry standards during testing operations.
- Assist in the development of new testing methodologies and technologies to enhance testing capabilities.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree or higher in Engineering Technology, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience in operating and maintaining wind tunnel or similar testing equipment.
- Familiarity with data acquisition systems and software, including data analysis tools.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with a focus on mechanical and electronic systems.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate technical information clearly.
- Knowledge of aerodynamics and fluid dynamics principles is highly desirable.
- Experience with computer programming and automation tools is a plus.
- Relevant certifications in aerospace testing or mechanical systems maintenance are advantageous.
