Job Brief
As a Trackwalker, you will play a vital role in the construction, maintenance, and repair of railroad tracks for standard and narrow-gauge rail systems. This position requires hands-on experience with track laying, ballast cleaning, and the operation of tamping machines. You will ensure that tracks are safe and functional for regular railroad service as well as in specialized environments such as quarries and mines. Ideal candidates will possess a strong attention to detail, mechanical skills, and a commitment to safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Lay, repair, and maintain railroad tracks, ensuring alignment and stability.
- Operate ballast cleaning machines and tamping machines to maintain track integrity.
- Conduct regular inspections of tracks and associated equipment to identify and address issues.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to develop schedules for track repairs and upgrades.
- Follow safety protocols and regulations to minimize risks during operations.
- Utilize hand tools and machinery effectively for track construction and maintenance tasks.
- Document maintenance activities and report findings to supervisors.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in rail or construction preferred.
- Proven experience in railroad maintenance or construction roles.
- Familiarity with operating heavy machinery, specifically ballast and tamping machines.
- Strong mechanical skills and ability to troubleshoot equipment issues.
- Knowledge of safety standards and regulations in railroad operations.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
- Valid driver’s license; certification in operating specific machinery is a plus.
