Job Brief

As a Herpetologist, you will study the origins, behavior, diseases, genetics, and life processes of reptiles and amphibians. This role involves specialized wildlife research and management, including the collection and analysis of biological data to assess the environmental impact of land and water habitats. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in herpetology, with experience in field research, data analysis, and a passion for wildlife conservation.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field studies and surveys to observe and document reptile and amphibian populations.
  • Analyze biological data to evaluate the effects of environmental changes on herpetological species.
  • Develop and implement wildlife management plans to protect and conserve habitats.
  • Collaborate with government agencies, conservation organizations, and academic institutions for research projects.
  • Publish findings in scientific journals and present research at conferences.
  • Educate the public and stakeholders about herpetological species and conservation efforts.
  • Monitor and assess the health and behavior of reptile and amphibian populations in various ecosystems.
  • Utilize statistical software and geographic information systems (GIS) for data analysis and mapping.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Zoology, Wildlife Biology, Ecology, or a related field with a focus on herpetology.
  • Strong field research skills, including experience in habitat assessment and species identification.
  • Proficiency in data collection and analysis techniques, including statistical software.
  • Excellent communication skills for report writing and public presentation.
  • Knowledge of wildlife regulations and conservation practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience with GIS tools and ecological modeling is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for fieldwork as needed.
