Job Brief
We are seeking a skilled Hazmat Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for identifying, removing, packing, transporting, and disposing of hazardous materials such as asbestos, lead-based paint, waste oil, fuel, transmission fluid, radioactive materials, and contaminated soil. This role requires specialized training and certification in hazardous materials handling, along with a confined space entry permit. The Hazmat Technician will operate earth-moving equipment and trucks in compliance with safety regulations and best practices.
Responsibilities
- Identify and assess hazardous materials in various environments, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
- Remove and pack hazardous materials safely for transportation or disposal.
- Transport hazardous materials to designated disposal sites following local, state, and federal regulations.
- Conduct environmental clean-ups and remediation efforts for contaminated sites.
- Maintain accurate documentation of hazardous materials handled and disposed of.
- Operate earth-moving equipment and trucks to facilitate the safe handling of hazardous materials.
- Participate in safety training programs and adhere to all safety protocols.
- Communicate effectively with team members and regulatory agencies regarding hazardous material management.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certifications in hazardous materials handling preferred.
- Certification in confined space entry and hazardous materials management.
- Proven experience as a Hazmat Technician or in a similar role within the environmental services industry.
- Strong knowledge of hazardous materials regulations and safety best practices.
- Ability to operate heavy machinery, including trucks and earth-moving equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Physical stamina and ability to handle heavy lifting and strenuous activities.
