Job Brief
As a Hatchery Worker, you will play a vital role in the care and management of a variety of live farm, ranch, and aquacultural animals. Your primary responsibilities will include feeding, watering, and monitoring the health of animals such as poultry, finfish, and shellfish. This position requires attention to detail, the ability to assist in animal births, and the administration of medications when necessary. Ideal candidates will possess hands-on experience in animal husbandry and a passion for animal welfare.
Responsibilities
- Feed and water animals according to established schedules and nutritional guidelines.
- Monitor animal health and behavior to detect signs of disease or injury.
- Assist in the birthing process and care for newborn animals.
- Administer medications, vaccinations, and insecticides as required.
- Maintain accurate records of animal health, feeding schedules, and breeding activities.
- Clean and maintain animal housing areas to ensure a safe and sanitary environment.
- Collect eggs and shear wool from animals when applicable.
- Assist in the transportation and loading of animals for processing or sale.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in animal science or a related field is a plus.
- Previous experience in animal husbandry, agriculture, or aquaculture preferred.
- Basic knowledge of animal health and welfare standards.
- Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physical labor in various weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established protocols.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Familiarity with record-keeping and data entry practices.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
