Job Brief
The Groom plays a vital role in the daily care and management of livestock and aquacultural animals, including cattle, sheep, horses, poultry, and more. This position requires hands-on experience in animal husbandry, feeding, milking, and health monitoring. The ideal candidate will possess strong observational skills to detect signs of illness, assist with breeding and birthing processes, and maintain accurate records of animal health and activities. Responsibilities
- Feed and water various types of livestock and aquacultural species to ensure their health and well-being.
- Monitor animal behavior and physical condition to identify any signs of disease or injury.
- Assist in the breeding process, including birth deliveries and postnatal care.
- Administer medications, vaccinations, and insecticides as directed by veterinary professionals.
- Maintain accurate records of animal health, breeding, and production activities.
- Clean and maintain animal housing areas to ensure a safe and hygienic environment.
- Perform routine tasks such as milking, shearing, and egg collection.
- Herd and graze animals in open range or pasture environments safely and effectively.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certifications in animal husbandry preferred.
- Proven experience in livestock or aquaculture management.
- Strong knowledge of animal care practices, including feeding, health monitoring, and breeding.
- Ability to recognize signs of illness and administer first aid or veterinary care as needed.
- Physical stamina and the ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.
- Excellent communication and record-keeping skills.
- Familiarity with farm machinery and equipment is a plus.
