Job Brief
As a Grave Digger, you will be responsible for performing manual excavation and earth-moving tasks at burial sites. This role requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and the ability to operate basic hand tools. The ideal candidate will have experience in manual labor, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work in various weather conditions. Strong teamwork and communication skills are essential for coordinating with funeral service professionals and ensuring respectful handling of all materials.
Responsibilities
- Excavate gravesites manually using shovels and hand tools, ensuring accurate dimensions and depths.
- Transport and handle materials, such as soil, graveside markers, and caskets, with care and respect.
- Collaborate with funeral directors and other personnel to prepare graves for services.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
- Assist in filling graves and restoring the site post-service, including landscaping as needed.
- Adhere to local regulations and cemetery policies throughout all job responsibilities.
- Respond to emergency situations promptly and effectively, ensuring safety at all times.
Requirements
- Proven experience in manual labor or related roles, preferably in a cemetery or construction setting.
- Physical stamina and strength to perform heavy lifting and prolonged outdoor work.
- Familiarity with basic hand tools and equipment used in excavation and earth-moving tasks.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong communication skills.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; relevant certifications are a plus.
- Commitment to maintaining a respectful and professional demeanor at all times.
- Valid driver’s license may be required for transportation of equipment and materials.
