Job Brief

The Feltmaker is responsible for the creation and production of felt products, utilizing traditional and modern techniques in textile manufacturing. This role requires a solid understanding of fiber properties, felting processes, and design principles. Candidates should possess hands-on experience in textile production, creativity in product design, and proficiency in tools and machinery used in feltmaking. Strong attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Design and produce various felt products including garments, accessories, and home décor items.
  • Utilize felting techniques such as wet felting, needle felting, and nuno felting to create high-quality textiles.
  • Maintain and operate felting machinery and tools, ensuring safety and precision during the production process.
  • Collaborate with designers and team members to develop innovative felt products that meet customer specifications.
  • Conduct quality control checks to ensure finished products meet industry standards and client expectations.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and advancements in textile production to enhance skills and product offerings.
  • Manage inventory of raw materials and finished goods, coordinating with suppliers as necessary.
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior feltmakers and apprentices in techniques and best practices.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in feltmaking or textile production, with a strong portfolio of completed projects.
  • Knowledge of fiber types, their properties, and suitable felting techniques.
  • Experience with textile machinery and tools, including sewing machines and felting needles.
  • Strong artistic and creative skills, with the ability to conceptualize and execute designs.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality products.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with a willingness to collaborate with others.
  • Relevant certifications in textile arts or a related field are a plus.
