Job Brief
As a Grapple Skidder Operator, you will be responsible for efficiently operating heavy machinery to perform logging tasks such as felling trees, skidding logs, and clearing brush. This role requires a skilled operator with experience in handling various logging equipment, including grapple skidders, bulldozer blades, and log chippers. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of safety protocols and best practices in forestry operations, along with excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Responsibilities
- Operate grapple skidder and other logging equipment to fell trees and transport logs to designated locations.
- Ensure efficient loading, unloading, and stacking of logs while adhering to safety regulations.
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections on machinery to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Navigate various terrains and manage obstacles to maximize productivity in logging operations.
- Collaborate with team members to coordinate logging activities and optimize workflow.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment usage and log quantities for inventory management.
- Assist in clearing brush and pulling stumps to prepare sites for future logging operations.
- Adhere to all environmental and safety policies to minimize impact on the surrounding ecosystem.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in heavy machinery operation is a plus.
- Proven experience as a grapple skidder operator or similar role in the forestry industry.
- Comprehensive knowledge of logging equipment and safety protocols.
- Ability to operate various logging machinery, including bulldozer blades and log chippers.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) may be required.
- Strong physical stamina and ability to work in various weather conditions.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Familiarity with forest management practices is an advantage.
