Job Brief

As a Gear Cutter, you will set up, operate, and tend to lathe and turning machines to precisely turn, bore, thread, form, or face various metal and plastic materials, including wire, rod, and bar stock. This role requires a strong understanding of machining processes, attention to detail, and the ability to work with precision tools. Ideal candidates will have experience in a manufacturing environment and possess solid technical skills to enhance production efficiency while ensuring quality standards are met.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and calibrate lathe and turning machines for efficient gear cutting operations.
  • Operate machines to cut, shape, and finish metal and plastic materials according to specifications.
  • Monitor machine performance to ensure quality output and make necessary adjustments.
  • Inspect finished products for dimensional accuracy using precision measuring instruments.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment by following safety protocols and procedures.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality assurance teams to troubleshoot issues and improve processes.
  • Document production activities and maintain accurate records of jobs completed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in machining preferred.
  • Proven experience as a gear cutter or similar machining role in a manufacturing setting.
  • Proficient in using lathe, CNC machines, and other related equipment.
  • Strong understanding of machining processes and the ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Experience with precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.
