Job Brief

As a Dinkey Driver, you will operate switching or dinkey locomotives within various environments such as railroad yards, industrial plants, quarries, and construction sites. This role requires a strong understanding of locomotive operations, safety protocols, and efficient switching techniques. Ideal candidates will possess prior experience in locomotive driving and demonstrate proficiency in adhering to safety regulations while ensuring timely transportation of materials.

Responsibilities

  • Operate dinkey engines and locomotives to transport materials within specified locations.
  • Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment to ensure functionality and safety.
  • Follow established safety protocols and procedures to minimize risks during operation.
  • Coordinate with ground crew and other personnel to ensure efficient loading and unloading processes.
  • Monitor engine performance and report any mechanical issues to maintenance teams.
  • Maintain accurate logs of operations, including trips, delays, and incidents.
  • Adhere to local and national railroad regulations and industry standards.
  • Participate in safety training and continuous skill development programs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications in locomotive operation are preferred.
  • Proven experience operating locomotives or dinkey engines in a related environment.
  • Strong understanding of railroad safety regulations and operational procedures.
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance checks and troubleshoot basic mechanical issues.
  • Excellent communication skills to coordinate effectively with team members.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and in varying weather conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license; commercial driver’s license (CDL) may be required.
