Job Brief
The Delimber Operator is responsible for operating specialized logging equipment, including tractors and wheeled vehicles equipped with accessories to fell trees and manage timber extraction. This role requires hands-on experience with heavy machinery and a strong understanding of forestry practices. Key skills include proficiency in operating bulldozer blades, frontal shears, grapples, and logging machines such as log chippers. Responsibilities
- Operate logging tractors and wheeled vehicles to fell trees and manage timber extraction.
- Utilize accessories such as bulldozer blades, frontal shears, and grapples for efficient log handling.
- Skid, load, unload, and stack logs while adhering to safety protocols.
- Pull stumps and clear brush to prepare land for future logging activities.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on logging equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Safely operate stand-alone logging machines, including log chippers, to enhance timber processing.
- Collaborate with team members to coordinate logging operations and optimize productivity.
- Maintain accurate records of daily operations, including production metrics and equipment usage.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant vocational training is a plus.
- Proven experience as a Delimber Operator or in a similar forestry-related role.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) preferred for operating logging trucks.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with heavy machinery operation.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices in logging operations.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and physical environments.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with crew members.
