Job Brief
As a Geotechnical Engineering Technician, you will apply civil engineering principles to assist in the planning, design, and oversight of construction and maintenance of structures and facilities. You will collaborate with engineering staff and physical scientists to conduct site investigations, analyze soil and rock properties, and provide technical support throughout project lifecycles. The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical skills, experience with geotechnical testing methods, and a solid understanding of construction practices.
Responsibilities
- Conduct site investigations to collect soil, rock, and groundwater samples for geotechnical analysis.
- Perform laboratory testing on soil and rock samples to determine physical and engineering properties.
- Assist in the preparation of geotechnical reports, including data interpretation and recommendations for foundation design.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to develop design solutions based on geotechnical findings.
- Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with geotechnical specifications and standards.
- Utilize geotechnical software tools for modeling and analysis, enhancing project efficiency.
- Support the development of project proposals and technical presentations.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of field and laboratory activities.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Proven experience as a Geotechnical Engineering Technician or similar role in the civil engineering sector.
- Familiarity with geotechnical testing methods and equipment, including SPT, CPT, and laboratory testing techniques.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in geotechnical software such as GeoStudio, PLAXIS, or equivalent.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of applicable codes and regulations related to geotechnical engineering and construction practices.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
