Not professional as in being Ageism.
An agent text and emailed me about job vacancy opening and sent me JD for review. Asking me a few questions included year did in secondary school. I even ask to have a quick call so it more easier. During the call she passed the phone to her another colleague. After he ask mi a few questions about status on my current job. Then he said at my age to get a post of……is very difficult. So now I know why he ask me my year of school, count my current age. Anyway after that he never talk about the job vacancy recommended earlier anymore. He also asking at my age if I willing to learn.
After the call I emailed to.him saying that I felt being discriminated against because of my age. What wrong with my age when I still can work and healthy right.
To his replied, he apologize to me and said it just concern and was just checking to confirm as I have been in current company for some time and the package is also better than most companies. (How he know my current package is good as I didnt tell him any and if good I will not look out for job) The present position may not be able to pay so high for the post I am looking for. And he also said he have seen some time some candidate move on and the other company may not be as good as their present one (He already said sometime doesnt mean it will happened to mi or other job candidate) He even dont know my name and address mi wrongly. See how in sincere he is.
I hope this person communicate politely and respectfully to all job candidates. If you think age is a concern, just communicate tactfully. Moreover, recruitment agency should try their best to look out something that suit or fix the candidate and not see their age to suit the job. Please be more professional.
FYI, after you, I got an offer, who say at my age, I cannot find the similar position with higher pay. It just a matter of effort.
