Buying an OMAX water jet cutting machine is possibly the worst business decision I have ever made. We purchased the ProtoMAX and were excited to have a small machine for prototyping. The machine has NEVER worked. From day one we have had constant errors! We can not even cut a single part without it failing multiple times during the cutting process. We contacted tech support numerous times over the years and their solutions were to just buy more parts and spend more money, nothing was covered under ‘warranty’. We can’t even sell the machine because it doesn’t work, so I am stuck with a lemon. OMAX is not willing to help so I just have to write off the loss and try to learn from my mistakes. My advice to you if you are reading this, do not buy OMAX. They can’t even deliver a working machine. Learn from my loss and buy a different water jet cutting machine. I have lost about $40k buying an OMAX.

I love my water jet. I currently have a maxiem 2040 and have ran an omax 55100. The tech support has helped me diagnose problems in the most painless way possible. My 2040 has nearly 15000 hours on it and still runs like a champ.

If you’re looking to add a water jet machine to your manufacturing facility my suggestion is DONT DO IT. When our water jet machine is working correctly, it is fantastic, but unfortunately we cannot rely on our OMAX machine. Our manufacturing facility is roughly 40 miles from the omax facility which is the reason we purchased the omax. Our machine which was purchased brand new Less Than 3 years ago, requires a technician to come out all too often. When omax sends out a technician they charge for a rental car, for airfare, for hotel accommodations, and food for the technician on top of the omax hourly rate. Did I mention that their facility is only 40 miles from us? A single day of a technician is $3,000 and that’s just for him to be there, this does not include whatever the problem at hand. This machine has cost us many customers do to unreliability, my suggestion is look into a different process for cutting material. Today I get to call another group of customers and let them know that we unfortunately can not fulfill their request. This time it has to do with a proprietary $1,800 circuit board, we just had a technician at our facility 45 days ago to fix a different problem and go through the machine thoroughly so we can get back to reliability. Here we are again!
