Responsibilities

  • Manage the makeup and breakup of trains, ensuring timely and accurate assembly of cargo and passenger loads.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers, yardmasters, and other crew members to facilitate smooth operations.
  • Conduct pre-departure inspections of trains, ensuring all systems are functioning properly and safety protocols are followed.
  • Monitor train operations during transit, addressing any operational issues or emergencies that may arise.
  • Maintain detailed records of train movements, crew assignments, and any incidents that occur during operations.
  • Provide leadership and training to new crew members, fostering a culture of safety and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in transportation or logistics is a plus.
  • Prior experience as a train conductor or in a railroad operations role is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of railroad safety practices, regulations, and operational procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a diverse team.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required by train schedules.
  • Proficient in using railroad communication systems and operational software.
  • Valid certification as a train conductor, with a clean driving record and no disqualifying criminal history.
