Job Brief
As a Traffic Engineering Technician, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing roadway safety and efficiency by conducting detailed field studies. You will assess traffic volume, speed, signal effectiveness, and lighting adequacy, providing critical data to support traffic engineering initiatives. Responsibilities
- Conduct field studies to gather data on traffic volume, speed, and patterns.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of traffic signals and signage in various conditions.
- Assess roadway lighting adequacy to ensure safety for all users.
- Collect and analyze data to identify traffic congestion and safety issues.
- Assist in the preparation of reports and presentations based on field findings.
- Collaborate with traffic engineers to develop recommended improvements.
- Utilize traffic simulation software to model traffic conditions and forecast impacts.
- Stay updated on traffic engineering best practices and industry trends.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Traffic Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience in traffic data collection and analysis, preferably in a municipal setting.
- Familiarity with traffic engineering software and tools (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM).
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Excellent communication skills for reporting and presentations.
- Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to field sites as needed.
