Job Brief

The Track Moving Machine Operator is responsible for laying, repairing, and maintaining track for standard and narrow-gauge railroad equipment in various settings, including plant yards, quarries, sand and gravel pits, and mines. This role requires skilled operation of track maintenance machinery such as ballast cleaning machines and railroad bed tamping machines. Ideal candidates should possess relevant experience in track maintenance operations, strong mechanical skills, and a commitment to safety.

Responsibilities

  • Operate track maintenance machinery, including ballast cleaning machines and tamping machines, to ensure optimal track conditions.
  • Inspect and evaluate track conditions and perform necessary repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Lay new track and align existing track using industry-standard techniques and equipment.
  • Monitor and manage the use of materials, ensuring efficient use of ballast and other supplies.
  • Adhere to safety regulations and best practices while operating heavy machinery.
  • Collaborate with team members to complete projects on time and within budget.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and equipment inspections.
  • Assist in training and mentoring new operators on safe and efficient operational procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; relevant vocational training is a plus.
  • Proven experience as a Track Moving Machine Operator or similar role in railroad maintenance.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of track infrastructure and equipment.
  • Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) may be required.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in heavy machinery operation.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and nights as needed.
