Job Brief
As a Tornado Chaser, you will investigate and analyze atmospheric phenomena, utilizing advanced meteorological data from surface and air stations, satellites, and radar systems. This role involves preparing detailed reports and forecasts to inform the public and relevant stakeholders about severe weather events. Ideal candidates will possess a strong knowledge of meteorology, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to operate forecasting tools effectively.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and assess atmospheric conditions to identify potential tornado formation.
- Utilize meteorological instruments and software to collect and analyze data.
- Prepare and disseminate accurate weather forecasts and alerts for tornado activity.
- Conduct field research during severe weather events to gather real-time data.
- Collaborate with meteorologists and climate scientists to enhance forecasting accuracy.
- Document and publish findings and observations for academic and public use.
- Educate the community on tornado safety and preparedness measures.
- Maintain and calibrate meteorological equipment and tools as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field.
- Proven experience in weather analysis, forecasting, or a related role.
- Strong proficiency in using meteorological software and tools.
- Ability to interpret complex meteorological data and create comprehensive reports.
- Excellent communication skills for conveying weather information effectively.
- Willingness to travel and work in extreme weather conditions.
- Certification from a recognized meteorological organization is a plus.
- Knowledge of tornado patterns and behaviors is highly desirable.
