Job Brief

The Histology Technician plays a crucial role in medical laboratories, performing routine histological procedures to assist in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. This position requires a solid understanding of histopathology techniques, including tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining. The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively under the supervision of a medical technologist.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process tissue specimens for microscopic examination, ensuring high-quality results.
  • Perform routine staining techniques, including Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) and special stains.
  • Assist in maintaining laboratory equipment, ensuring proper functioning and compliance with safety standards.
  • Document and report findings accurately, contributing to patient diagnosis and treatment plans.
  • Adhere to laboratory protocols and quality control measures to ensure accuracy and reliability of results.
  • Collaborate effectively with pathologists and other laboratory staff to support diagnostic processes.
  • Stay updated with advancements in histological techniques and technologies.
  • Assist in training and mentoring new personnel and interns within the laboratory.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Histotechnology, Biology, or a related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Certification as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) is highly desirable.
  • Proficient in histological techniques, including fixation, processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety protocols and quality assurance practices.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and report generation.
