Job Brief

The Highway Engineering Technician plays a crucial role in supporting the planning, design, and construction of highway and transportation projects. Under the guidance of engineering staff, this position involves applying civil engineering principles to ensure the effective maintenance and operation of road infrastructure. Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning and design of highway projects, ensuring compliance with engineering standards.
  • Conduct site inspections and surveys to gather data for project development and maintenance.
  • Prepare and review technical drawings and specifications using design software.
  • Collaborate with engineers and project managers to develop project timelines and budgets.
  • Monitor construction activities to ensure adherence to design specifications and safety regulations.
  • Analyze traffic patterns and roadway conditions to recommend improvements.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports, proposals, and presentations for stakeholders.
  • Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other technology to support project planning and analysis.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology or related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in highway engineering or civil engineering projects.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other engineering design software.
  • Strong knowledge of highway design standards and construction practices.
  • Familiarity with surveying equipment and techniques.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as required.
