Job Brief
The Head Greenskeeper is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all landscaping and groundskeeping activities on the golf course or property. This leadership role requires extensive experience in turf management, plant care, and landscape maintenance. The Head Greenskeeper will manage a team of groundskeeping staff, ensuring that high standards of aesthetics and playability are met, while also handling budgeting, scheduling, and equipment management. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills are essential to excel in this crucial role.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and direct daily activities of the groundskeeping team to maintain turf health and landscape aesthetics.
- Develop and implement maintenance schedules for greens, fairways, tees, and bunkers to ensure optimal playing conditions.
- Conduct regular inspections of the grounds to identify maintenance needs and address issues promptly.
- Manage inventory, procurement, and maintenance of landscaping equipment and materials.
- Prepare cost estimates and budgets for landscaping projects, ensuring adherence to financial guidelines.
- Train staff on best practices for turf management, pest control, and landscape maintenance techniques.
- Respond to inquiries from customers regarding grounds maintenance services and pricing.
- Collaborate with management to enhance the overall aesthetic appeal and functionality of the property.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Greenskeeper or in a related landscaping management role.
- In-depth knowledge of turf management, horticulture, pest control, and landscape maintenance.
- Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate staff.
- Proficiency in budgeting and cost estimation related to landscaping projects.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with team members and clients.
- Familiarity with landscaping machinery and maintenance equipment.
- Relevant certifications in turf management or landscaping (e.g., Certified Golf Course Superintendent) are preferred.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as necessary.
