Job Brief
The Hatchery Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of hatcheries, ensuring optimal conditions for the hatching and rearing of aquatic species or livestock. This role requires strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of agricultural practices, and experience in managing farm operations. The ideal candidate will coordinate breeding programs, manage staff, and maintain compliance with health and safety regulations while optimizing production efficiency and sustainability.
Responsibilities
- Plan, direct, and coordinate hatchery operations to ensure efficient production and high-quality output.
- Supervise and train staff in hatchery practices, including incubation, hatching, and rearing techniques.
- Implement and monitor breeding programs to enhance stock quality and yield.
- Manage inventory and procurement of hatchery supplies, ensuring availability of resources for smooth operations.
- Conduct regular assessments of hatchery conditions, including water quality, temperature, and overall health of stock.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and best practices in animal husbandry and biosecurity.
- Analyze financial performance and develop strategies for cost control and productivity improvement.
- Collaborate with marketing teams to develop sales strategies and promote hatchery products.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, Aquaculture, or a related field preferred.
- Proven experience in hatchery management or a similar role within the agricultural or aquacultural sectors.
- Strong knowledge of breeding, incubation, and rearing processes.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Ability to analyze data and make informed decisions to improve operational efficiency.
- Familiarity with health and safety regulations applicable to farming and aquaculture.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in farm management software and data analysis tools is a plus.
