Job Brief
As a Harbor Boat Pilot, you will command and supervise the operations of various water vessels, including tugboats and ferryboats, ensuring safe navigation and compliance with maritime regulations. This role requires extensive knowledge of local waterways, strong leadership skills, and a valid U.S. Coast Guard-issued license. Ideal candidates will have experience in maritime operations and possess excellent communication skills to effectively coordinate with crew members and other marine professionals.
Responsibilities
- Navigate and operate vessels safely within harbors, channels, and waterways.
- Supervise crew members and ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations.
- Coordinate with port authorities and other maritime personnel for efficient vessel movements.
- Conduct pre-voyage inspections and ensure vessels are seaworthy.
- Monitor weather conditions and make informed decisions to mitigate risks during operations.
- Provide training and guidance to crew members on safe operating procedures.
- Maintain accurate logs of vessel operations and any incidents that occur during navigation.
- Implement emergency procedures and provide assistance in the event of maritime emergencies.
Requirements
- Valid U.S. Coast Guard-issued license for piloting vessels.
- Proven experience in marine navigation and vessel operations.
- Strong knowledge of local maritime regulations and safety practices.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to make quick decisions in high-pressure situations.
- Experience operating tugboats, ferryboats, or similar vessels preferred.
- Familiarity with navigation technology and maritime communication systems.
- Physical stamina and the ability to work in varying weather conditions.
