Job Brief

As a Geropsychologist, you will assess, diagnose, and treat mental and emotional disorders in older adults through detailed observation, interviews, and psychological testing. This role requires expertise in understanding the unique psychological challenges faced by the elderly, providing both individual and group counseling services to enhance personal, social, educational, and vocational adjustment. A successful Geropsychologist will collaborate with medical personnel to design and implement effective treatment plans and behavior modification programs tailored to each patient’s needs.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and evaluations of older adults to identify mental health issues.
  • Utilize psychological tests, interviews, and case history to diagnose mental and emotional disorders.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans and behavior modification programs.
  • Provide individual and group therapy sessions to address psychological distress and maladjustment.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure integrated care for patients.
  • Educate patients and families about mental health issues and coping strategies.
  • Monitor and document patient progress and adapt treatment plans as necessary.
  • Stay informed about best practices and emerging research in geropsychology.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in Psychology (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) with a focus on geropsychology or a related field.
  • Current licensure to practice psychology in the relevant jurisdiction.
  • Experience working with older adults and understanding their specific psychological needs.
  • Strong skills in psychological assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective patient interaction.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices for treating mental health issues in the elderly.
  • Certification in geropsychology or related specialties is a plus.
