Job Brief
The Funeral Home Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting funeral services and ensuring a respectful and dignified experience for bereaved families. Responsibilities
- Prepare the funeral service area by placing caskets in the parlor or chapel prior to services.
- Arrange floral offerings and lighting around the casket to create a respectful atmosphere.
- Direct and escort mourners during the service, ensuring a smooth and compassionate experience.
- Assist with the closing of the casket and managing funeral equipment as necessary.
- Support the funeral director in various tasks, including setting up and dismantling equipment.
- Provide assistance to families by answering questions and offering guidance throughout the service.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the funeral home facilities.
- Handle administrative tasks as directed, including record-keeping and managing supplies.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in funeral service is a plus.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact compassionately with grieving families.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and moving caskets and equipment.
- Previous experience in a funeral home or similar environment is preferred.
- Basic understanding of funeral service protocols and equipment usage.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record, as transportation may be required.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
