Job Brief
As a Forestry Laborer, you will play a crucial role in the management and conservation of forested areas, wetlands, and rangelands. Under the supervision of a forestry professional, you will engage in various manual labor tasks aimed at developing and maintaining these natural environments. Key responsibilities include raising and transporting seedlings, combating harmful insects and diseases, and constructing structures to prevent soil erosion and manage water flow. Ideal candidates possess a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in outdoor settings.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the propagation and transportation of tree seedlings to support reforestation efforts.
- Engage in pest management activities to control harmful insects and diseases affecting plant life.
- Participate in tree planting initiatives to enhance forest density and biodiversity.
- Construct and maintain erosion control structures to protect soil integrity.
- Collect non-timber forest products, such as pine straw, for conservation and commercial purposes.
- Monitor and assess the health of forested areas and report any concerns to supervisors.
- Operate basic forestry tools and equipment safely and effectively.
- Assist with the implementation of conservation and sustainability practices in forest management.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional forestry or environmental science education is a plus.
- Previous experience in forestry, landscaping, or environmental conservation preferred.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
- Familiarity with forestry tools and equipment, including hand tools and machinery.
- Basic understanding of plant biology and ecology is advantageous.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
- First Aid and CPR certification is beneficial.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate vehicles as required.
