Job Brief
The Flight Deck Officer is responsible for planning and directing the operation and maintenance of catapults, arresting gear, and associated mechanical, hydraulic, and control systems integral to aircraft carrier takeoff and landing operations. This role requires extensive experience in aviation operations, strong leadership skills, and a deep understanding of safety protocols. The Flight Deck Officer will oversee the readiness and safety of launch and recovery systems, ensuring efficient and safe aircraft operations.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the operation and maintenance of catapults and arresting gear to ensure optimal performance during aircraft launch and recovery.
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee the design, development, and testing of aircraft launch and recovery systems.
- Evaluate and approve design proposals for new catapult and arresting gear installations.
- Determine and specify the handling equipment needed for new and existing aircraft.
- Prepare detailed technical data and operational instructions for landing aid systems.
- Conduct training sessions for personnel on carrier takeoff and landing procedures, emphasizing safety and efficiency.
- Monitor compliance with safety regulations and implement best practices for flight deck operations.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to troubleshoot mechanical and hydraulic systems as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in flight deck operations or related military aviation roles.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and control systems pertaining to aircraft launch and recovery.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to train and mentor personnel.
- Familiarity with safety and regulatory standards in aviation operations.
- Certifications in aviation safety and operations management are preferred.
- Proficient in technical documentation and operational instruction preparation.
- Ability to work in high-stress environments and make quick, informed decisions.
