Job Brief

The Flame Hardening Machine Setter is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining heating equipment used for tempering, hardening, and heat treating metal and plastic objects. This role requires a strong understanding of flame-hardening processes, equipment calibration, and quality control measures. Ideal candidates will possess a background in manufacturing or metalworking, along with practical experience in operating heat-treating furnaces, flame-hardening machines, and induction machines. Key skills include mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret technical specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and calibrate flame-hardening machines and other heat-treating equipment according to specifications.
  • Operate heating equipment, including induction machines and soaking pits, to achieve desired material properties.
  • Monitor temperature and process parameters to ensure quality control throughout the heat treatment process.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshooting on flame-hardening machinery to minimize downtime.
  • Inspect finished products for compliance with quality standards and specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize heating processes and improve efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate records of machine settings, production output, and maintenance activities.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and best practices in operating heating equipment and handling materials.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; technical certification in metallurgy or manufacturing is a plus.
  • Proven experience as a machine setter or operator in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with a deep understanding of heat treatment processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and machine specifications.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices in operating heating equipment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime as needed.
