Job Brief
As a Fire Investigator, you will play a critical role in ensuring public safety by inspecting buildings for fire hazards and enforcing compliance with local ordinances and state laws. You will conduct thorough investigations to gather facts and determine the causes of fires and explosions, utilizing your expertise in fire science and investigation techniques. Responsibilities
- Inspect buildings and other structures to identify fire hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Conduct detailed fire scene investigations to determine the origin and cause of fires and explosions.
- Collect and document evidence from fire scenes, including photographs, witness statements, and physical samples.
- Prepare comprehensive reports summarizing findings and conclusions of fire investigations.
- Testify as an expert witness in court regarding findings of fire investigations.
- Collaborate with law enforcement and fire department personnel during investigations.
- Stay updated on fire investigation techniques, technology, and legal regulations.
- Educate the public and businesses on fire safety practices and prevention measures.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Fire Investigator or in a related field such as fire protection engineering or law enforcement.
- Certification as a Fire Investigator (e.g., from the National Association of Fire Investigators or equivalent) is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of fire science, building codes, and investigative techniques.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for reporting and testimony.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in high-pressure situations.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to various locations as needed.
