Job Brief
As an Explosive Technician, you will be responsible for placing and detonating explosives to safely demolish structures or to effectively loosen, remove, or displace earth, rock, and other materials. This role requires a strong understanding of explosives handling, storage, and accounting procedures. Successful candidates will demonstrate technical proficiency, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety in high-risk environments. A background in construction, mining, or demolition is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Place explosives strategically to ensure safe and effective demolition of structures.
- Prepare and handle explosives according to federal, state, and local regulations.
- Conduct site assessments to evaluate blast feasibility and safety risks.
- Operate detonation equipment and ensure proper timing for explosive deployment.
- Maintain accurate records of explosives usage and inventory management.
- Collaborate with engineers and project managers to plan and execute demolition projects.
- Adhere to safety protocols to protect personnel and the environment during operations.
- Conduct post-blast evaluations and report findings to management.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certifications in explosives handling preferred.
- Proven experience as an Explosive Technician or in a similar role within the construction or mining industry.
- Strong understanding of explosives types, properties, and applications.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and blueprints.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Current knowledge of safety standards and regulations related to explosives.
- Strong physical stamina and the ability to work in challenging environments.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites as required.
