Job Brief

As an Environmental Protection Forester, you will be responsible for managing public and private forested lands with a focus on economic, recreational, and conservation objectives. This role requires expertise in timber inventory, appraisal, and procurement, as well as knowledge of wildlife habitat conservation and compliance with environmental regulations. Ideal candidates will possess strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of forestry management practices, and the ability to develop planting and harvesting plans to promote sustainable forestry.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct timber inventories to assess the type, amount, and location of standing timber.
  • Appraise the value of timber and negotiate purchase agreements with stakeholders.
  • Develop contracts for timber procurement while ensuring compliance with legal and environmental regulations.
  • Design and implement strategies for conserving wildlife habitats, creek beds, and soil stability.
  • Monitor water quality and develop management plans to protect natural resources.
  • Create and execute planting and growth plans for new trees to enhance forest sustainability.
  • Assess tree health and growth, determining optimal schedules for harvesting operations.
  • Collaborate with environmental agencies and stakeholders to promote sustainable forestry practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in forestry management, environmental conservation, or related roles.
  • Strong knowledge of timber appraisal techniques and procurement processes.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and conservation strategies.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in diverse environments.
  • Certifications in forestry management or environmental protection are preferred.
  • Proficient in the use of forestry management software and GIS tools.
