Job Brief
The Dock Loader is responsible for the safe and efficient loading and unloading of chemicals and bulk solids, including coal, sand, and grain, into and from tank cars, trucks, and ships. This role requires a strong attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to operate material moving equipment. Ideal candidates will have experience in shipping and receiving operations, as well as knowledge of handling hazardous materials. Key skills include physical stamina, teamwork, and problem-solving capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Load and unload bulk solids and chemicals using forklifts, conveyor belts, and other material moving equipment.
- Inspect and ensure the integrity of shipping tanks, including gauging and sampling to test for leaks.
- Maintain accurate records of shipments and inventory levels in compliance with safety regulations.
- Collaborate with team members to optimize loading and unloading processes to improve efficiency.
- Conduct routine maintenance checks on loading equipment and report any malfunctions.
- Follow all safety and environmental protocols to ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Assist in the preparation of shipping documents and labels as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in material handling or hazardous materials management preferred.
- Proven experience in loading and unloading operations, preferably in a shipping or logistics environment.
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations and best practices related to bulk material handling.
- Ability to operate material moving equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks safely.
- Excellent physical stamina and strength to lift heavy items and work in varying weather conditions.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
- Basic computer skills for record-keeping and documentation purposes.
