Job Brief
The Derrick Operator plays a crucial role in the drilling industry, responsible for rigging derrick equipment and operating pumps to effectively circulate mud or fluid through the drill hole. Responsibilities
- Rig and dismantle derrick equipment, ensuring all components are operational and compliant with safety standards.
- Operate pumps and manage the circulation of drilling fluids, maintaining optimal flow rates and pressure levels.
- Monitor and adjust drilling parameters to enhance drilling efficiency and minimize downtime.
- Perform regular inspections and maintenance on derrick and pump equipment to prevent mechanical failures.
- Collaborate with drilling crew and engineers to execute drilling plans effectively.
- Maintain accurate records of operational activities, fluid levels, and equipment performance.
- Comply with all health, safety, and environmental regulations during drilling operations.
- Assist in training junior operators on equipment handling and safety practices.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in drilling operations is a plus.
- Proven experience as a Derrick Operator or in a similar role within the oil and gas industry.
- Strong technical knowledge of derrick systems, pumps, and drilling equipment.
- Valid certifications in safety and equipment operation (e.g., H2S Awareness, First Aid).
- Ability to work long hours in challenging environments, including extreme weather conditions.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to make quick decisions under pressure.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with crew members.
