Job Brief

A Cytologist is responsible for performing complex medical laboratory tests to aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. This role requires a deep understanding of cytology, pathology, and laboratory procedures. The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic laboratory environment. Experience in training and supervising laboratory staff is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed microscopic examinations of cell samples to identify abnormalities and diagnose diseases.
  • Utilize advanced laboratory techniques and equipment to prepare and analyze cytological specimens.
  • Document findings accurately and generate comprehensive reports for clinicians.
  • Maintain laboratory safety protocols and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Train, supervise, and mentor junior staff and laboratory personnel on cytological procedures.
  • Participate in quality control and assurance programs to enhance laboratory practices.
  • Stay updated on advancements in cytology and related fields to improve diagnostic accuracy.
  • Collaborate with pathologists and other healthcare professionals to discuss findings and treatment options.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Cytotechnology or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Certification as a Cytotechnologist (CT) through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in a clinical or research laboratory setting, with a focus on cytology.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory techniques, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective reporting and collaboration.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in laboratory information systems and data management.
