Job Brief
A Cytologist is responsible for performing complex medical laboratory tests to aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. This role requires a deep understanding of cytology, pathology, and laboratory procedures. The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic laboratory environment. Experience in training and supervising laboratory staff is highly desirable.
Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed microscopic examinations of cell samples to identify abnormalities and diagnose diseases.
- Utilize advanced laboratory techniques and equipment to prepare and analyze cytological specimens.
- Document findings accurately and generate comprehensive reports for clinicians.
- Maintain laboratory safety protocols and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Train, supervise, and mentor junior staff and laboratory personnel on cytological procedures.
- Participate in quality control and assurance programs to enhance laboratory practices.
- Stay updated on advancements in cytology and related fields to improve diagnostic accuracy.
- Collaborate with pathologists and other healthcare professionals to discuss findings and treatment options.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Cytotechnology or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Certification as a Cytotechnologist (CT) through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.
- Proven experience in a clinical or research laboratory setting, with a focus on cytology.
- Strong knowledge of laboratory techniques, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective reporting and collaboration.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in laboratory information systems and data management.
