Job Brief
As a Bird Trapper, you will be responsible for the efficient capture and management of wild birds, employing specialized techniques and equipment such as nets and traps. This role requires a strong understanding of avian behavior and habitat, along with practical experience in wildlife management or related fields. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent observational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in various outdoor environments.
Responsibilities
- Utilize traps, nets, and other equipment to effectively capture wild birds in compliance with local regulations.
- Monitor and assess bird populations to determine appropriate trapping strategies and techniques.
- Maintain and repair trapping equipment to ensure optimal function and safety.
- Record and analyze data on captured birds, including species, location, and behavior.
- Collaborate with wildlife management teams to develop and implement population control strategies.
- Transport captured birds to designated facilities while ensuring their health and safety.
- Provide education and guidance to the public regarding local wildlife and conservation practices.
- Adhere to all relevant wildlife laws and regulations to promote ethical trapping practices.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in wildlife management or biology preferred.
- Proven experience in wildlife trapping, bird handling, or related fields.
- Strong knowledge of local bird species, their habitats, and behaviors.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and rugged terrains.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with team members and public education.
- Basic mechanical skills for maintaining and repairing trapping equipment.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to various trapping locations.
- Certification in wildlife handling or trapping (preferred but not mandatory).
