Job Brief
We are seeking a detail-oriented Bill Collector to join our financial services team. The Bill Collector will be responsible for locating and notifying customers of delinquent accounts through various communication methods, including mail, telephone, and personal visits. This role involves soliciting payments, managing account statuses, and maintaining accurate records of collection efforts. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, a keen understanding of financial processes, and experience in debt recovery or collections.
Responsibilities
- Contact customers with overdue accounts via mail, telephone, or in-person to initiate payment discussions.
- Receive payments and accurately post amounts to customer accounts in the financial system.
- Prepare detailed statements for the credit department when customers fail to respond to collection efforts.
- Initiate repossession proceedings or service disconnection as necessary while adhering to legal requirements.
- Maintain comprehensive records of collection activities and account statuses for reporting purposes.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with customers to facilitate payment arrangements.
- Monitor account aging reports to prioritize collection efforts on high-risk accounts.
- Collaborate with other departments to resolve customer disputes and inquiries.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Bill Collector or in a similar collections role.
- Strong knowledge of collection laws, regulations, and ethical practices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to negotiate effectively.
- Familiarity with financial software and databases for tracking payments and accounts.
- Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in collections or finance is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess account statuses and customer situations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications.
