Job Brief

The Barn Worker is responsible for the daily care and management of various farm animals in a livestock or aquaculture setting. This role involves feeding, watering, and monitoring the health of animals such as cattle, sheep, goats, poultry, and more. Ideal candidates should possess experience in animal husbandry, demonstrate strong attention to detail, and exhibit skills in animal health management. The Barn Worker may also assist in breeding activities and maintain accurate records of animal care, ensuring a healthy and productive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Feed and water livestock and other farm animals, ensuring proper nutrition and hydration.
  • Monitor animal health and behavior to detect signs of disease or injury.
  • Assist with birthing and neonatal care, providing support during delivery.
  • Administer medications, vaccinations, and insecticides as required.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of animal housing areas to promote a healthy environment.
  • Record and track animal health data, feeding schedules, and breeding information.
  • Conduct routine inspections of animals and equipment to ensure proper functioning and safety.
  • Participate in herding, grazing, and loading of animals as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in animal husbandry is preferred.
  • Experience working with farm animals or in a related agricultural field strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of animal care practices, including feeding, grooming, and health monitoring.
  • Ability to lift heavy materials and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with team members.
  • Valid driver’s license may be required for transportation of animals or materials.
  • Familiarity with record-keeping systems and animal health monitoring tools.
