Job Brief

As a Ballistician, you will play a critical role in the analysis of physical evidence related to criminal investigations. Your primary responsibilities will include collecting, identifying, and classifying evidence from firearms and ammunition to aid in criminal case resolution. You will perform comprehensive tests on various materials such as fibers, hair, and tissue, while also interpreting findings to determine their significance in investigations. This role requires expert knowledge in ballistics and may involve serving as an expert witness in court to explain evidence and laboratory techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, classify, and analyze ballistic evidence from crime scenes.
  • Perform detailed tests on firearms, ammunition, and related materials to determine their relevance to specific investigations.
  • Utilize advanced analytical techniques and equipment to interpret data and evidence.
  • Prepare detailed reports of findings and present evidence in a clear and concise manner.
  • Testify as an expert witness in court regarding the methods and results of ballistic analysis.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement agencies and other forensic specialists to support ongoing investigations.
  • Stay updated with advancements in forensic science and ballistics technologies.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory standards and maintain accurate documentation of all procedures and results.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Forensic Science, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in ballistic analysis or a related forensic discipline.
  • In-depth knowledge of firearm operation, ammunition types, and ballistic testing methods.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience using forensic laboratory equipment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing and courtroom testimony.
  • Certification in forensic science or ballistics preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple investigations simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities.
