Job Brief
As a Surveying Technician, you will perform essential surveying and mapping duties under the guidance of engineers, surveyors, or cartographers. This role involves collecting and analyzing data for construction projects, boundary determinations, and mapmaking. A successful candidate will possess strong skills in data collection, map creation, and accuracy verification, along with a solid understanding of surveying principles and technology.
Responsibilities
- Conduct field surveys to gather data on land features and boundaries.
- Utilize advanced surveying equipment, including total stations and GPS devices, to obtain precise measurements.
- Analyze and interpret data from aerial photography, satellite imagery, and existing maps.
- Create detailed maps showcasing topographical features, political boundaries, and infrastructure.
- Verify the accuracy and completeness of maps and survey data to ensure compliance with project specifications.
- Assist in the preparation of survey reports and documentation for stakeholders.
- Collaborate with engineers and project managers to ensure alignment with project goals.
- Maintain and calibrate surveying equipment to ensure optimal performance.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in surveying, geomatics, or a related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Proven experience as a surveying technician or in a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of surveying principles, methods, and technologies.
- Proficiency in using surveying software, such as AutoCAD or GIS applications.
- Familiarity with data analysis and map creation techniques.
- Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to various job sites.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
