Job Brief

As a Rail Maintenance Worker, you will be responsible for laying, repairing, and maintaining tracks for standard or narrow-gauge railroad equipment utilized in various services, including plant yards, quarries, sand and gravel pits, and mines. This role requires hands-on experience with track machinery and tools, as well as a strong understanding of safety protocols and maintenance practices within the railroad industry.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of railroad tracks to ensure safety and compliance with regulations.
  • Lay new tracks and repair existing ones, ensuring proper alignment and stability.
  • Operate ballast cleaning machines and railroad bed tamping machines effectively.
  • Collaborate with team members to identify issues and implement solutions for track maintenance.
  • Perform routine maintenance on machinery and tools used in track operations.
  • Adhere to safety standards and regulations to minimize hazards in the work environment.
  • Document maintenance activities and report any issues to supervisors promptly.
  • Participate in training programs to enhance skills and stay updated on industry best practices.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional vocational training in rail maintenance is a plus.
  • Proven experience as a Rail Maintenance Worker or in a similar role within the railroad industry.
  • Strong knowledge of track maintenance procedures and equipment operation.
  • Ability to operate machinery, including ballast cleaning and tamping machines.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols and industry regulations.
  • Physical stamina and strength to perform manual labor and lift heavy materials.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Valid driver’s license; certification in rail maintenance operations is an advantage.
