Job Brief

As a Pulpwood Cutter, you will be responsible for felling trees and preparing timber for the pulp industry using tools such as chainsaws and axes. Your expertise in tree characteristics and cutting techniques will ensure precise control over the direction of fall, minimizing damage to surrounding trees and optimizing material yield. This role requires experience in forestry practices and a keen understanding of safety protocols within logging operations.

Responsibilities

  • Operate chainsaws and axes to fell trees safely and efficiently for pulpwood production.
  • Assess tree characteristics to determine the most effective cutting methods.
  • Control the direction of tree falls to prevent damage to neighboring trees and equipment.
  • Clear and prepare logging sites by removing debris and preparing timber for transport.
  • Follow safety regulations and best practices to minimize workplace hazards.
  • Perform routine maintenance on tools and equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve production targets and maintain workflow efficiency.
  • Document work completed and report any issues related to equipment or safety compliance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in forestry or logging preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Pulpwood Cutter or in a similar role within the forestry industry.
  • Strong knowledge of tree identification, cutting techniques, and logging equipment.
  • Ability to operate chainsaws and other cutting tools safely and effectively.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and regulations in logging operations.
  • Physical stamina and strength to perform demanding tasks in outdoor environments.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate vehicles in remote locations.
  • Certification in chainsaw operation or related safety training is a plus.
