Job Brief
The Medical Stenographer plays a crucial role in the healthcare industry by accurately transcribing medical reports dictated by physicians and other healthcare providers. Responsibilities
- Transcribe dictated medical reports into clear and accurate written documents.
- Edit and proofread transcriptions for grammatical accuracy and adherence to medical standards.
- Translate medical abbreviations and jargon into understandable language.
- Return completed reports in both printed and electronic formats for review and signature.
- Organize and maintain patient records and documentation for easy access and retrieval.
- Collaborate with healthcare practitioners to clarify any unclear dictations.
- Stay updated on medical terminology and transcription practices to ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Utilize transcription software and electronic health record (EHR) systems effectively to optimize workflow.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; an associate degree in medical transcription or related field is preferred.
- Proven experience as a medical stenographer or in a similar role within the healthcare industry.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and procedures.
- Proficiency in transcription software and EHR systems.
- Excellent typing skills with a minimum speed of 60 words per minute.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Certification from a recognized medical transcription organization is a plus.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with healthcare teams.
