The High School Librarian plays a crucial role in fostering a love for reading and learning among students while managing the school’s library resources. This position involves administering and maintaining a diverse collection of informational materials, including books, periodicals, and digital databases. The High School Librarian is responsible for providing user services, teaching information literacy skills, and facilitating access to resources that support the curriculum. Responsibilities
- Administer library operations, including cataloging, circulation, and acquisition of library materials.
- Develop and maintain a diverse collection of books, periodicals, and digital resources to meet the needs of students.
- Provide instruction on information literacy and research skills to students and faculty.
- Assist students in locating and utilizing library resources effectively.
- Organize and conduct library programs, workshops, and events to promote reading and learning.
- Maintain and manage library media equipment and technology.
- Collaborate with teachers to support curriculum development and integrate library resources into lesson plans.
- Evaluate and select new materials based on student interests and educational needs.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS) or equivalent from an accredited institution.
- State certification or licensure as a school librarian.
- Proven experience in a library setting, preferably within an educational institution.
- Strong knowledge of cataloging, classification systems, and library management software.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with students and faculty.
- Ability to create engaging programs and instructional materials for diverse learners.
- Familiarity with digital resources, databases, and emerging library technologies.
