Job Brief
As a Fiber Optic Technician, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunications cabling, specifically fiber optic systems. The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of fiber optic technology and demonstrate proficiency in testing and troubleshooting fiber optic networks. This role requires hands-on experience with fiber optic cables and equipment, ensuring high-quality performance and adherence to safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Install and configure fiber optic cables and related equipment.
- Conduct testing and troubleshooting of fiber optic networks to ensure optimal performance.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on existing fiber optic systems.
- Interpret technical documentation and schematics for installation and repair tasks.
- Collaborate with engineers and project managers to plan and execute installation projects.
- Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, and maintenance activities.
- Adhere to safety protocols and industry standards during all installation and repair processes.
- Provide technical support and training to clients and team members as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant vocational training preferred.
- Proven experience as a Fiber Optic Technician or similar role in telecommunications.
- Strong understanding of fiber optic technology and networking principles.
- Familiarity with testing equipment such as OTDR, power meters, and visual fault locators.
- Certification in fiber optics (e.g., FOA CFOT, ETA Fiber Optics Technician) is a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
