Job Brief

As an Emergency Operator, you will play a critical role in public safety by operating communication systems to receive and relay emergency assistance requests. This position requires a strong ability to assess situations swiftly and coordinate effectively with law enforcement and emergency response teams. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication skills, attention to detail, and experience in handling high-pressure situations.

Responsibilities

  • Operate telephone, radio, and other communication systems to receive emergency calls and dispatch appropriate services.
  • Assess and prioritize incoming requests for assistance, including crimes, medical emergencies, fires, and other public safety matters.
  • Provide clear and accurate information to the public and emergency response personnel.
  • Access sensitive databases to gather relevant information and coordinate response efforts.
  • Deliver instructions and guidance to callers based on established law enforcement, fire, or emergency medical procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of calls received and actions taken during emergency situations.
  • Collaborate with local, state, and federal agencies to enhance response strategies and community safety.
  • Participate in ongoing training to stay updated on emergency response protocols and technologies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in emergency management or public safety is a plus.
  • Prior experience as an emergency operator, dispatcher, or in a related public safety role.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with callers and emergency personnel.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and maintain composure in stressful situations.
  • Familiarity with emergency response procedures and protocols.
  • Proficient in using communication equipment and software for emergency operations.
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
