Job Brief
The Dog Catcher is responsible for the humane capture and control of stray, abandoned, or dangerous dogs within the community. This role requires experience in animal handling, strong observational skills, and the ability to conduct investigations related to animal mistreatment. The Dog Catcher collaborates with local animal control agencies and law enforcement to ensure public safety and compliance with animal welfare regulations.
Responsibilities
- Conduct investigations into reports of animal mistreatment and neglect.
- Safely capture and transport stray or dangerous dogs using appropriate equipment and techniques.
- Assess the health and behavior of captured animals to determine proper care and rehabilitation.
- Coordinate with local shelters and animal control agencies for the housing and adoption of captured dogs.
- Maintain accurate records of all animal captures, incidents, and investigations.
- Educate the public on responsible pet ownership and the importance of animal welfare.
- Participate in community outreach programs to promote safe interactions between people and animals.
- Provide support during emergency situations involving animals, including natural disasters or public safety threats.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; certification in animal control or handling is preferred.
- Proven experience in animal handling, rescue, or a related field.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with the public and other stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and make critical decisions in high-pressure situations.
- Knowledge of local animal laws, regulations, and best practices in animal care.
- Physical stamina and the ability to lift and transport animals safely.
- Compassion for animals and a commitment to promoting animal welfare.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
