Job Brief
As a Court Interpreter, you will play a crucial role in facilitating communication within the judicial system by interpreting oral or sign language and translating written documents from one language to another. This position requires fluency in at least two languages and a deep understanding of legal terminology. Responsibilities
- Interpret spoken dialogue and sign language accurately during court proceedings.
- Translate written legal documents, including briefs and court orders, to ensure clarity and compliance.
- Maintain confidentiality and impartiality while interpreting sensitive information.
- Assist judges, attorneys, and clients in understanding court proceedings through effective communication.
- Provide consecutive and simultaneous interpretation services as required.
- Stay updated on legal terminology and relevant legislation to ensure precise interpretation.
- Document and report any discrepancies or challenges encountered during interpretation.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training to enhance interpreting skills.
Requirements
- Proven fluency in English and at least one additional language.
- Certification or credentialing from a recognized interpreting organization.
- Strong understanding of legal terminology and court procedures.
- Excellent listening, speaking, and communication skills.
- Experience in legal, medical, or community interpreting is preferred.
- Ability to work under pressure and remain composed in high-stress situations.
- Familiarity with technology used in virtual court proceedings is a plus.
- Strong ethical standards and commitment to confidentiality.
